Boys and Girls at the Race for LifeAir cadets from 1220 (March) Squadron supported the annual Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research which was hosted at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough last week. The location for the usual parade night training was moved to Ferry Meadows and the cadets helped the organisers with the running of the event. The male cadets lined the finishing runnels and handed out medals, water and goody bags to the participants as they crossed the finish line. After the race they helped to clear the site of empty boxes and secure the unopened ones for the race the following evening. The female cadets, staff and civilian committee members took part in the race and collected sponsorship for the charity. Together they hope to raise in excess of £500. Flt Lt Kirsty Burnham, whose aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks before the race, said “I always enjoy taking part in the Race for Life and this year my reasons for doing so were closer to home. It is also enjoyable to stay and help for the whole of the race to cheer on all the participants as they finished and to see their various emotions having completed the 5 kilometre route.”
Both the Commanding Officer and Warrant Officer at March Squadron are female and took part in the race. Cpl Simon Foster sponsored both of them and was heard to say that he made sure he was there to help so that he could keep an eye on his investment! He will need to dig deep and pay up as they both completed the race. |
